Movement Guide Cards

HOWELL :  7 tables · 9 rounds · 27 boards

Suppose that 6½ tables show up for your game.  Your options are:

• Play a Mitchell with a 4-board sitout?  Nobody likes those.
• Play the 13-round Howell?  Nobody seems to like that one either.
• Use this movement.

Suppose that you already have started a game using a 6-table Howell, and more players walk in.  What to do?

• Send them home?  Unacceptable.
• Re-shuffle and redistribute the boards, and start over?  Unacceptable.
• Use this movement.  Simply change the guide cards.

Back in the 1970's, when my club games averaged about seven tables, this movement was used more than any other.
