My trip having been cut short by two days due to smoke, I managed to miss an important junction for — you guessed it — US-395!

My attempted shortcut through the Oregon desert is blocked off after 16 miles

This folly contributed to a thousand-mile final day.  Idaho to Sacramento by way of — Bend, dead-end dirt roads, and yet another errant detour at Lakeview.  How dumb is that?
