Ted's Hiking World Rochester Panel Petroglyphs
San Rafael Swell, Utah

October 18, 2017

On Day-10 of the Fall Bucket List Tour I am exploring the San Rafael Swell in central Utah.  Having already found an off-road arch, a big dinosaur track, the second-best pictograph panel I ever saw, and Utah's version of the Grand Canyon, I would finish the day's tour on a well-publicized trail to some more petroglyphs.

There is one other car in the parking lot as I arrive.

*
The trail leads down that canyon

Mini-arch

An admonishment at the beginning of the trail is echoed down in the canyon:

*

After about a mile of up-and-down going, the destination is in sight.

*
The stuff is in those square boulders

Wow!  This panel is bigger than most.

Rochester Panel

Photographs of rock art invariably are best out of the sunlight, and this one is no exception.  It might be helpful to break up the panel into a couple of more manageable sections.

*
That's better

*
A giant lizard, google-eyed men, and more

A few glyphs are located on other rocks:

* *

*
That person has a hula hoop!

The sun will be here for a couple of hours yet, so there is no benefit in hanging around.

* *

Heading back

*
It's an uphill slog from here

*
Those artists had imagination

§: This rock-art panel features some characters that I have not seen elsewhere, and those always are fun to find.
