Petrified Dunes (part) Snow Canyon State Park, Utah |
October 9, 2017
Two years ago my pal Gary and I hiked over the Petrified Dunes and down to Three Pools. Although it was a great walk, I'm not here to do it again. There is a nifty little arch atop the nearest big dune that I neglected to photograph previously; today I would capture it for posterity.
Within five minutes I spot an opening in the rock up to the left, so I veer over that way.
There's an arch up there — a different one!
It is easy enough to find a nice pathway up the sandstone.
Yes, this arch went completely unnoticed on the previous outing.
Someone collected a few oddly shaped stones
Marbles are all over the place on this hilltop
I still have not seen the formation I was looking for, however. It must be over the lip of the hill to the south. Yes, there it is!
I dub thee Petrified Dunes Arch
Through the arch's opening I can see the white hilltop that I wanted to scale just an hour ago, but was thwarted by high winds.
More Moqui marbles forming slowly
§: Mission accomplished, with a bonus. The entire
walk took less than forty minutes.
