Delany Lake and its catfish
The big hill
The Royal Penstemon are exquisite, as always
First views of Penner Lake
This is where Cindy and Ted set off for the mountain top.
Slogging up the talus
I subsequently found a website detailing how the Forest Service has
re-routed the trail so as to eliminate the "obnoxiously steep
climb north of Penner Lake". Well, the route we actually took
was even steeper than that!
I visited this nearby lake just five days later, on a different trail:
Upper Rock Lake, and Sierra Buttes to the north
The Sierra Buttes are but twelve miles distant, if you can fly; otherwise, it's fifty miles.
Penner Lake (left) in the Great Basin —
Culberton Lake (right) in the Yuba River Basin
Descending the mountain
Peak 7264
We're probably going to make it
Mysterious stuff in Feely Lake
