Ted's Hiking World Pisciadu Cascade

September 13, 2014

On the Monte Piana hike, I left a pair of prescription glasses on the trail, committing the cardinal error of putting them down instead of into a pocket.  Earlier, on the first bus ride, I left my backpack on the bus, realizing my error just in time to flag down the driver before the bus departed.

Subsequently, I tried to lose my walking stick and two different shirts, and I already have mentioned the broken mouse.  On the other side, Dave left a walking stick on a bus; but I caught that one.  Later on, he thought that he had lost a credit card; but it had merely been misplaced.

Feeling that a day of lesser activity is in order for myself, Dave takes off on a venture of his own.  I plan eventually to take a little stroll starting from the center of town; but it doesn't quite work out that way.

The town sentinel

Following a little guidebook gets me onto the trail all right, but it quickly becomes a nightmare.

*
A horrid route and several inches of mud

Getting out of there as quickly as I am able, I learn that that area is under construction and that a detour is available that parallels the highway.

After walking more than two miles and climbing some 800 feet, I finally hear some water running; I must be close.

§: Take this walk only if you are relatively tired or have nothing better to do.  Fortunately, in the Dolomites there always is something better to do.

Dave's friends Linda and Peter are still around, so we go out to dinner together again.  This time I share in my first-ever Italian pizza, which is quite tasty.  Pretty much all the pizzas around here are comprised of a very thin crust and just a couple of ingredients, not including olives.  I have yet to see an olive in Italy, and I definitely want them on my pizzas.
