Ted's Hiking World Laguna Azul Overlook
Torres del Paine NP, Chile

March 20

This is the last day of our Torres del Paines National Park tour.  Since the park fire has seriously curtailed our planned activities, substitute walks are in order.  Our guide decides that for our last hike we will visit Laguna Azul just north of here.

During the bus ride to the lake, we encounter a big herd of guanacos blocking the road.

These guys sure are cute

A bit farther on is the obligatory viewpoint at Paine River Falls:

*
Cascada Rio Paine and the Torres del Paine

Our hike will be but a short scamper up a hillside to an overlook of the lake.

A hilltop plaque describes the scene that we cannot see because of the clouds

As luck would have it, the inclement weather provides a fringe benefit:

What a treat!

No, no, you dummy.  Look the other way!

On the way down

After leaving the lake, our bus proceeds directly to a park entrance station where, by prior agreement, David and I are left to catch another bus directly back to El Calafate.  While we are waiting, there is time for a couple more photos.

§: This substitute hike was short and unexciting, but the rainbow made it worthwhile.
