The new Sacramento Bridge Center opens for business!
March 21, 2016
All of the little offices will disappear
The lighting and ceiling tiles will be replaced
New insulation will be added to the old stuff
Existing shelving must be torn out
These fixtures also will be replaced
March 23
With most of the walls down, the space is much larger
March 29
The kitchen ceiling is somewhat lower
Sheet rock is going up on the far wall
In order to raise the kitchen ceiling, a lot of water pipes would have to be relocated, at considerable expense; so that is not going to happen.
The south wall adjoins a legal office. Materials are being doubled up on it
to provide extra sound-proofing. We wouldn't want the
lawyers to complain about our noise!
April 19
The wall on the left is being double-insulated against sound leakage. All walls
will feature sound-retardant materials.
28 feet of whiteboard go between the red lines
Most of the ceiling lighting is up
April 26
The electrical work is nearly finished. Newer building codes require a much more complicated setup than was previously the case.
The lights are on
Cabinets in the storeroom
June 7
Good things have been happening at the new facility. Most of the legal hurdles are behind us.
The outer walls are mostly finished. That middle section
will be a long whiteboard.
The kitchen area, and the 8-foot door to the classroom
The classroom & expansion area
The entrance area will have porcelain flooring
June 22
The ceiling is finished. The south wall (on the right) also is finished, awaiting installation of the white boards.
The grey post on the left is nicely finished
The storeroom will keep its existing cabinets
July 5
The carpeting has been laid. The walls are finished, and the whiteboards have been installed.
Refrigerators and dishwashers await installation
The classroom can hold up to five tables
The kitchen will feature quartz countertops
A big TV near the front door will display scores and rankings. The plan is to mount a pair of other monitors on a center post, showing results from separate sections individually.
July 21
Construction is nearly finished!. About all that remains is the requisite red tape (inspections and permits).
Just inside the front door
A wall of whiteboards
The classroom is glass-enclosed
Great lighting fixtures
There is plenty of room in the kitchen and serving area
Two sinks, two dishwashers
Two refrigerators, microwave, and oven
Opening Day — September 12
Jim Bowman introduces the new facility
The game is almost underway — all 28½ tables!
The feeding trough already is quite popular
Opening day was a rousing success. It is only fitting that Albert Chow,
without whose tireless dedication this club would not exist, should win the first
game. Many others are to be commended as well for their assistance —
Jim Bowman, Joy O'Dell, Ali Topcu, Hans Burgdorf, and others including a couple of
computer guys. Also, we must thank profusely all the donors who put up a lot of
cash to help make this thing possible.
