Ted's Special Places Living Memorial Sculpture Garden
US-97 near Weed

June 8, 2015

Thirteen miles north of Weed, on US-97, is an inspiring tribute to the men and women who died fighting for their country.  Created in 1988 by a dedicated group of veterans, the site is now maintained with the help of the Forest Service.

The site includes the Hot LZ Memorial Wall, The Labryinth, and ten amazing metal scultures by artist Dennis Smith.  In the middle of the Wall, a bronze plaque honors LTC Ace Alan Cozzalio, a decorated helicopter pilot and founding member of the LMSG.

Not all of the sculptures are represented here.  In particular, a multi-sculpture named The Refugees was vandalized, and five figures were stolen; so the artist removed the rest.

Why?

§: Why, indeed?

Because I have a brain, I abhor war (and all violence, for that matter).  My issue, however, is properly with those who started the conflicts, not with the brave souls who performed their patriotic duties and fought in them.  If you also have a brain, then a visit to this sanctuary is pretty much guaranteed to affect you in a positive way.
