Ted's Hiking World Petroglyph Canyon
Zion National Park, Utah

October 11, 2017

On the eastern side of Zion Park is a scenic turnout that provides access to a normally dry creek bed.  Somewhat lesser known is that it is but a short stroll from here to a Class-2 archeological site, meaning that it is accessible but not publicized.  I would make no reference to it myself except for the fact that there already is plenty of information online.

In the dry wash

A tunnel underneath the highway

Some fall color

Just ahead is a frolicking group of more than a dozen people, mostly kids.

* *

They are using the rock slab as a slide

I'm not here for that, though; so I press on.

This appears to be the end of the line

Interesting formations

It is only now that I discover that, by following the wash, I have bypassed the trail I was looking for.  Alongside a lengthy section of cliff face is a wooden railing, behind which are dozens of glyphs:

Yes, I found them!

Heading back

Three kids are scampering along ahead of me

§: Success!  Now it's off to Kanab for the night.  Tomorrow I tackle the Grand Canyon for the first time.
