Ted's Hiking World Umbrella Falls
Mount Hood National Forest

August 24, 2017

Homeward-bound after my encounter with the recent solar eclipse, I depart my motel on the Columbia River in early morning.  Almost immediately I am treated to a great view of the area's principal landmark.

*
The north face of Mount Hood

After bypassing the photogenic Tamanawas Falls (Hike #211),  I stop for another photo from the other side of the mountain.

*
The south face of Mount Hood

Now, realizing that I have traveled too far, I must backtrack seven miles to a little side road in order to visit this waterfall.

*
Sahalie Falls, 73'

Then it is a short drive up toward the Mount Hood Meadow Ski Area to the trailhead.

*
The little white paper reads the same as the red sign.  Go figure

Having no idea what to expect here excepting a short walk to yet another waterfall, I set off with little more than my camera.

*
The trail is delightfully smooth

The morning sunlight is working its magic on the local flora.

*
Pearly Everlasting

A beautiful butterfly insists upon being noticed:

A good-feeling place

§: What a delightful little walk!  The falls were very nice, and the garden was marvelous.

Both of these falls can be accessed by a 5-mile loop trail, but this way I saved half a day for walking somewhere else.
